I am a Registered General and Obstetric Nurse, with a focus in Occupational Health and Safety. Over the last 20 years, I have implemented Health and Safety systems for a local fisheries company, developing a multi-skilled base to ensure the safety of up to 300 people. I have been working at OH Well since 2014.

I started working part-time in Occupational Health Nursing under Ingrid’s guidance over ten years ago, while also working at Christchurch Hospital in acute general medicine. I particularly enjoy health promotion and seeing the positive results of the health monitoring we do. When individuals are safe and healthy in their place of work, then it can only benefit their personal lives as well. I now divide my time between being a Practice Nurse at a Christchurch Medical Centre and working at OH Well.

I have been working in the office at OH Well as the Office Coordinator/Reception since March 2015. I have worked in administration for over thirty years, particularly in the health sector. I enjoy the role at OH Well as I get to meet and talk to many different people. It is a varied and busy role. I am a Registered nurse and have worked in occupational health for the last three years here in Christchurch. Prior to this I worked in medical research, GP practices, hospitals community organisations in New Zealand, Australia and England.  I very much enjoy working in Occupational Health as there is a big focus on preventative health and safety and wellness in the workplace. You get to meet people in a variety of industries with different jobs and skills and every day is different.  Although I have lived in many places, Christchurch and in particular the sea and hills of Banks Peninsula are home. 

I grew up in Christchurch and 15 years ago moved south, all the way to Timaru, with my husband and young son. Prior to moving to Timaru, I worked in Christchurch Public Hospital’s emergency department and since moving south I have worked within the hospital and the community. I believe I have found my niche working in primary health since 2008, the last four as an Occupational Health Nurse. I feel incredibly privileged to bring my nursing skills and knowledge to the broad spectrum of workers I meet in my job and the variety of workplace settings this role takes me to is phenomenal.

I started my nursing life in Reefton as a District Nurse before moving to Christchurch, raising a family and working part time in aged care. Previous to OH Well I worked as an Arthritis educator where the focus was on education and self-management which fits very nicely with Occupational Health and Wellness. What I enjoy about Occupational Health Nursing is the focus on improving health and wellness in the work place. The variety of work sites we visit ensures that no two days are the same.

I began my career as a surgical nurse at CDHB where I worked for two years before joining OH Well in June 2016. I feel privileged to be responsible in providing health care to such a diverse range of people. No two days are the same as an Occupational Health Nurse. It’s a rewarding role being able to educate workers and detect any potential health issues. I enjoy being part of the OH Well team and providing quality healthcare for our clients.

I trained in the British Army as a Registered General Nurse, then worked in the British Prison Service before becoming a Parkinsons Nurse Specialist. In 2006 we moved from the UK to Christchurch and five years ago I was lucky enough to start working in Occupational Health. I love this field of nursing because of the variety of work we undertake and the many people we meet. The positive impact we can have and the ability to develop relationships, monitor and educate for healthy outcomes makes this my ideal role.
