It’s not too late for your flu shot!
It’s not too late! If you have staff needing flu immunisation we have vouchers and a small number of immunisations still available. Your best defence against the flu is to get a yearly flu immunisation. Although having the flu immunisation doesn’t guarantee you won’t catch the flu, it will give you more protection and mean you are less likely to experience complications from a flu infection. Protection against the flu reduces over time. Each year the flu is caused by different strains, which may not be included in the previous year’s vaccine. This is why it is important to have the flu vaccine every year.
If you would like more information, to organise for staff to come in for the immunisation, or order vouchers you can email jabyourcrew@ohwell.co.nz or phone Kylie, our office administrator on 03 377 2661.

The silent killer – blood pressure
High blood pressure can lead to strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and kidney failure. Finding and treating high blood pressure early helps prevent these problems. Making changes to the way you live, like eating better and exercising, and taking your medications as prescribed by your doctor will help you to control high blood pressure.
Whether or not you have high blood pressure, it is important to have your blood pressure checked regularly. High blood pressure has no warning signs or symptoms – which is why it is often called a ‘silent killer’. Have your blood pressure check at least once a year by a health provider, or more often if it is high.

New to the OH Well team
Mariedy (Dy) Taguinin
I’ve been a nurse for 12 years in the Philippines, with experience across various fields within the nursing profession. Most recently, I worked as a Company Nurse—also known as an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN).
This is my first opportunity to work abroad, and I feel incredibly grateful and overjoyed to have secured a role here in New Zealand. Being part of the OH Well Team as an OHN truly feels like a dream come true. I deeply value this rare opportunity and am committed to making the most of it.
Outside of work, I find joy in spending quality time with my family, church community, and close friends—it’s what keeps me grounded and fulfilled.
Renee Perera
I recently joined the OH Well team In April 2025, which I am really enjoying so far.
I have been an Enrolled nurse for 6 years In orthopaedics, district nursing and paediatric outpatients.
When not working in NZ I have done voluntary nursing in Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
In my spare time I love the outdoors, hikes, running and spending time with friends and family.
Joe Coalwell

Most recently, I have served as an Employee Occupational HealthNurse for the US Department of Veterans Affairs in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. My background also includes industrial occupational health nursing, having worked to promote health and wellness at several meat packing and packaging plants in central Minnesota.
I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family and am excited to take in the natural beauty of the Canterbury region.
